Check Off Your Bucket List!
Come explore the amazing beauty of Tanzania on our Photography Safari designed specifically for photographers. Our visit in February is during the Wildebeest calving season where hundreds of thousands of herding animals gather in the Ndutu, Southern Serengeti, and Ngorongoro regions. The greater Serengeti conservation area includes mountains, marshes, dry river beds, lakes, and the world famous plains. Through our expert safari drivers, we will take our clients on all day game drives that put you in front of the Big 5, herds of zebra, Wildebeest, and all the predators that have been hunting since the migration returned in December. There are an abundance of Lions, Cheetahs, Hyena, Jackals, and elusive Leopards and Caracals. The Ndutu region allows game drivers to explore off road to gain unprecedented access to wildlife. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact, unfilled caldera in the world. It has one of the highest densities of lions and over 30,000 large mammals that call this area home year round. Elephants, Black Rhino, and Cape Buffalo roam while Wildebeest, Zebra, and Gazelle herd and protect their young. This trip will also introduce you to hundreds of species of birds and raptors, including a variety of eagles, and one of the largest flocks of Flamingos in the world. The African landscape, extreme wildlife, and pure exhilaration a photographer will experience is truly why this trip is on so many people's bucket list.
Why Choose this Trip?
Professional Photography and Enthusiastic Guides
This trip's itinerary is very unique compared to commercial safaris. The location and time of year has been chosen and vetted by Tom in partnership with a US company and Safari specialists based in Arusha TZ. What we do different is use qualified drivers who have been trained by Tom to fulfill the high demands photographers expect. We will not be co-mingled with other tourists or placed on a clock that dictates when or where we need to be. From sun up to sun down we will be on the wildlife. The first 4 days of the trip we will be in the Ndutu area in a glamping tent community and the final 2 days in a lodge. Both scenarios are minutes away from the wildlife, offer amazing food, and all the comforts you've come to expect with Tripod Travelers. Our guides stay with us at all times and the level of service in these accommodations is outstanding.
An all day Safari is very demanding, we will have specific objectives during each day with breaks and lunch along the way. We will work with you while on Safari to ensure you capture the pictures you expect while offering photography instruction and support. At night after dinner or during down times, we will also work with you on your post processing techniques so you leave Africa with pro grade pictures.
This trip, unlike most African Safaris has one of the largest diversity of animals in very accessible locations. In February 2019, we photographed Lions, Cheetah, Hyenas, Elephants, Hippos, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest each day. We had to search, but our guide was able to locate a Leopard and two separate Caracals (both rare and tough to locate). With over 9,000 pictures captured, we can attest that you will not leave this trip disappointed.

Day 0: Arrival day
On arrival day you will be met by our representative and get transferred to Arusha for overnight.
Day 1: Arusha to Ndutu
After breakfast we will head to Ndutu area, situated in the Ngorongoro conservation area, part of the southern Serengeti eco-system. We arrive in time for lunch and there after proceed with afternoon game drive. In this season the area will be highly populated with Wildebeest as its calving season.
Day 2 & 3 – Ndutu ( Full Day)
After breakfast, enjoy a full day game drive in the Ndutu area. Explore the range of different habitats that include swamps, woodland, soda lakes and the world famous Serengeti short grass plains. See great herds of wildebeest and zebra. During a short time frame around February, normally lasting for about 3 weeks, the majority of the wildebeest calves.
Day 4: Ndutu – Ngorongoro
Enjoy early breakfast, have morning game drive, lunch at lodge/campsite. In the afternoon we depart to Ngorongoro Conservation area with game drive enroute.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, you descend into the crater, enjoy game drive in the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals including some of Tanzania's last remaining black rhino.
Day 6: Ngorongoro crater
After breakfast, you descend into the crater for the second time game drive. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its huge population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard. We will enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor. Late afternoon drive back to Arusha.
Day 7 Arusha
After sleeping in and breakfast, transfer back to the airport for home or next item on your itinerary
All Game drive days start before sunrise (Yes there is Coffee!) and end by sunset.
